Some of those weird cult films look interesting, particularly Ralph Bakshi's Fire and Ice.

It, in my opinion, certainly is worth a curious look. Granted I watched it while at work, so maybe I missed what made it so bad, but I did catch some funny fucking one-liners and decent comic timing by Feldman.

Otherwise, great list this week, Harry.

Speaking of Bakshi's Fire and Ice, there's this cartoon parody of Conan the Barbarian on Adult Swim called Korgoth of Barbaria, and its awesome. I love all things related to Conan, and if you haven't seen this cartoon, Harry, I suggest you search it on YouTube. You'd like it.

I don't get the hate it suffered when released. It's volontarily silly and kicks so much ass. Sol was a great baddie, and Rhona Mitra was surprisingly good - both in badassness and acting style. When it comes to leading ladies in B-movie extravaganza, she's much better than Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld flicks or Milla Sonovabitch in the miserable Resident Evil flicks.

Don't be fooled by the idiotic premise. It's more of a twisted comedy than a straight horror film although it does have it share of creepy moments. Especially if you have a thing against hair in your food, your clothes or growing out of your eyeball.

....Last week at Bestbuy(yes the 3 disc version). And this was the 1st time i watched it. It was a pretty good film. I was surprised by the fact at how normal it was. By that I mean it did not seem like a B-movie. It had no gore, very little nudity and it was not really over-the top. And even the acting was half way decent. It seems that Enzo was trying to make a legit war movie. So this is definitely a film for those who love The dirty dozen, force 10 and other war film from that era. The ending was a bit of a surprise as well. AND lots of cool stuff this week. Also alot of movies i loved are out this week, yes i even dug Doomsday.

Tony Jaa just has no screen presence. I get that Jaa's willing to do all sorts of absurd stunts, but Adkins his strong physical ability and lots of charisma. And what are stunts and action without personality? Adkins's performance in Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing was awesome. He was like a newschool Ivan Drago, a Russian fighter who wanted a worthy opponent but was trapped in a corrupt system where he couldn't get a real fair fight to feel his oats. I'm really looking forward to his leading role in Undisputed 3: The Warriors On The Streets of Fire. I wished they'd got him for that Never Back Down movie instead of a bunch of dudes who had bit parts on The O.C. or One Tree Hill or whatever. I'll still see it, I just wish it was Adkins in there.

I'm sorry, but I've never fully gotten on board the Dark City love train. It looks amazing, to be sure, and well-acted, but I remember cringing a lot during the dialogue. Plus Kiefer always came off as Basil Exposition "This... is what's happening to you... and let me... tell you why!" Oh well, fuck it, I still own the dvd, and I'll give the DC a chance though.

Dictionary.com needs a "Knowles to English" button on its language translator. It is moreso of all here? Wha? I once knew a guy who fancied himself a writer and was always writing these really shitty short stories. He once wrote a line of dialogue in which a character said, "Your kindness exudes me." I was usually able to tease out an intended meaning from such mysterious phrases, but that one confounds me to this day. Nor have I gotten one jot closer to understanding what the hell Knowles meant by "It is moreso of all here." It always astonishes me when people who are rabid readers turn out to be terrible writers.

What do you think of the Director's Cut of Dark City?
Affleck and Lillard
by TVguy4566
Jul 29th, 2008
09:44:08 PM
I guess I can be firmly entrenched in the "I hate Ben Affleck" camp. I guess to me he consistently plays his rolls far too lightweight. As if he is there to have a good time in his role and not really care if the audience engages his character. It did work in Good Will Hunting, but he was basically playing himself or at least people he grew up with. Otherwise, I feel it is ineffective like in Sum of All Fears (although I liked the movie as a whole) to downright in appropriate (Pearl Harbor, but then again the whole movie was inappropriate considering the subject matter and Michael Bay's glossy, superficial, long and boring movie).

As for Lillard, I find him hit or miss. He is a guy who definitely has too much personality and energy. I thought it worked in movies like Scream and Hackers, but not in other. It is ironic that he has done so many movies with Freddie Prinze. Prinze is the anti-Lillard. Prinze has zero onscreen charisma and sucks the energy out of every scene he is in. I am shocked when I rare occassions watch episodes of Chico and the Man and think Freddie Prinze and Freddie Prinze Jr. are related. Jr. obviously got his onscreen prescense from his mother.

yeah, Harry pretty much nailed it. As far as sequels go, I'd put it a notch above Swamp Thing 2, but well below Escape from LA. It's not nigh unwatchable, but when the best parts are when Corey Feldman are on screen, well, that ain't saying much for your movie, especially in 2008. Actually, Feldman's role is a glorified cameo because I guess they had to leave room in the film for the One Tree Hill stunt doubles who are the "stars". On a positive note, it does have breasteses in it, which is nice, but if you paint a turd purple, you still got yourself a purple turd. And now you know-and knowing is half the battle.

It wasn't that bad, but they really should have gone with one of the alternate endings as the actual ending, that would have been a nice setup for LOST BOYS 3. Which HAD the potential to be good, and I can't believe I'm saying this but, Corey Feldman was the best thing about this movie.

Yes, he made Batman and Robin. Yes, it sucked. Let's all get over it. Claiming that he alone was responsible for the "death" of a franchise (which he wasn't) is just naive. And as I recall, a good number of people actually liked Batman Forever (Fuck, Nicole is so hot in that movie).

Besides, he's made some solid movies since. Tigerland, Flawless, Phone Booth, Veronica Guerin. Is he an "auteur"? No, the guy is very much a studio director. He works where his salary takes him (how else do you explain Bad Company?), but he's by no means a bad director.

As for Schumacker, although his uber-gayness didn't help matters, the blame for Batman and Robin really lies with Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the thing. Not only was he allowed to live after writing that, he was allowed to work again. And then he was given an Oscar, proof that Satan is very real.
