i know that it's really looking super dooper great and slick, with that almost mythic stature of ledger's joker and the bits we see of him, but so many scenes on there even though cool have been done ad nasseum. like how many times have we seen the villain and his gang crash a party and walk around scaring the shit outta the people? yeah it's cool but how many times can it be done before it's just unoriginal. or the bank robbery? c'mon folks, just get that extra punch to think up something really original and cool!
Nurse Ratched gets a bad rap

I've seen her compared to Darth Vader, and Harry just called her a "cunt." But if you watch the movie she's not really evil, she thinks she's doing the right thing. She has a chance to get rid of McMurphy but she doesn't do it because she wants to help him. I don't approve of what she does to him at the end, but it's only after he tried to strangle her and fucked up her throat! Back then they thought it was okay to lobotomize a lunatic and after he tried to kill her he sort of qualified.

So cut the bitch some slack fellas

Takes a cue from the Dark Knight when it comes to Gyllenhaal. Because she is just awful. I don't understand her appeal. Well I'm glad someone was man enough (maybe?) and had a baby with her and thats all she wants to do now. Now if we can just convice her to make her brother do the same.

I was actually considering getting the Birds of Prey set, as well as the Fastlane set that came out a week or so ago. Both shows are dumb, but fun in a guilty sort of way. There's a great moment at the beginning of Birds of Prey with the Joker - who's only seen out-of-focus - but his voice is supplied by Animated-Joker Mark Hamill, who does the best Joker laugh ever. At any rate, both shows were produced in widescreen, and aired that way on HD. But, full-screen DVD sets. They don't even MAKE full-screen TVs anymore! Oh, well, it saved me money, and the indignity of buying them in the first place.
Well at least

Nurse Ratched just needed a man
by Bobo_Vision

Much of her evil would have dissipated if she could have just found herself a good man and gotten laid. That's what it boils down to for most evil women. I've met nurses, a nun, teachers, and other women like Nurse Ratched, and the combination of trying to rise to a position of authority in a male-dominated world combined with bitterness from the inability to find a good man mixed with sexual frustration creates a vengeful spirit.

For me, the scene that really pissed me off was where Billy finally got laid and was starting to get confident, and she made him feel guilty and embarassed like he'd done something dirty, and he started stuttering again. That all boiled down to her jealousy that he got some.

It is true she is not evil. She spends her whole day surrounded by broken, abnormal people. It is easy to. At best, people like her become patronizing. At worse, they dehumanize the people they are caring for. It allows them to be cruel without knowing it. Her problem is she has lost perspective. In a way, she is the most tragic character in the film.

I totally fell in love with her watching Secretary. It really is one of the sweetest cinematic love stories in years. Great little movie.

Birds of Prey may not be one of the best shows ever made (the first episode was okay), but it's not any worse than Smallville. Most plastic show ever. Actors that look like porcelain dolls. Sets that look like sets. The most artificial lighting ever seen. Monotonous music (sorry, Mark Snow). Dull writing. Ugh.

Also, Nurse Ratched may not be evil, but she sure is a cunt.

I would never call her evil in the classic sense. However, there are some looks exchanged between her and McMurphy (especially towards the end) that clearly show she understands his "condition" and her willingness to exercise her power against his perceived and growing threat.

She was a button pusher, that's for sure.

Big Nurse
by WerePlatypus
Jul 14th, 2008
08:58:46 AM
While comparing the book to the movie is flawed because thy're seperate products, it's hard for me to seperate Nurse R's motivations from Big Nurse. The book is about power and control. . . the Big Nurse was a dominating figure who seemed to control Time and Space itself, and sat at a center of power like a spider pulling threads. McMurphy was an affront to that control, and she did what she could to stop him. The movie plays it straighter, so it's harder to see the undercurrents of power, but I think they're there.

this is a weird one, the show will be full screen as the advertising says but it'll actually be a matted widescreen. so basically it'll look like it did on regular tvs, with the little black bars. those of you with a widescreen tv will probably be able to use one of the zooms and make it LOOK like a proper widescreen. its weird that they did this...i mean tv shows are usually widescreen or not, being a big tv-on-dv buyer, this is a new one for me.

When I first heard that they were using letterboxed widescreen instead of anamorphic, I just assumed it came down to the same reason my Justice League Season 2 DVDs were released that way as well, it was just cheaper and faster for them to master the DVDs from a set of SD broadcast masters that they already had lying around than go back and make up some proper anamorphic masters. At least we're finally getting this show at all, it's been what 6 years since this show was on? And fans like myself have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting... At least they're not going bare-bones on this one, they've got the original cut of the pilot plus the entire run of the flash-animated 'Gotham Girls' web series included as well.

I agree that she was not some evil cartoon character. They did show that scene where she lobbied to keep McMurphy and not just pass him off. She did feel responsibility to the patients and she did think she was helping them but let's review the facts:

1) Several times she changed the rules to prevent the men from watching The World Series. She was a control freak and like McMurphy said "She aint honest".

2. She did the total unforgivable thing of driving Billy to suicide. She used his massive fear of his mother to minipulate him on more than one occasion in the movie. When he finally showed a little self-confidence after getting laid she quickly used his worst fear against him to squash him right back down when he had a history of suicide attempts. How fucked up was that?

One thing I never understood in the movie was if she was supposed to be nicer at the end. She did ask the guy about his dental work (somewhat sweetly) but she probably would have done that anyway. She was always well mannered.

Don't even get me started. You are so damn right. I thank god I was born when I was. Thank God Thank God. I would hate to be a kid nowadays. Cartoons suck garbage now, except for Avatar the Last Airbender. And cartoons are not the only things that we had much much better than kids nowadays, we had much better toys, and video games that were fun and cool for kids (now kids get shit like "Army of Two"). The ONLY thing that kids have better than we did is Pixar movies, but that is one brief day once a year, compared to an almost endless stream of fun cartoons, awesome toys, and really fun video games. Someday perhaps kids are going to get another golden age, but I dare say, that the 80's was the best time to be a kid in the history of civilization, I challenge anyone to cite a better time in history for kids.

Use to be special, a treat. When I was growing up, it was Saturday morning toons, once a week, that's it. They concentrated on quality back then because they only had one day a week to get it right. Now with all the Cartoon networks and kid's channells, the quality is diluted. They need to fill so much time now that even the crappiest shit gets airtime, and kids eat it up anyway, because they don't have anything else. There are some decent cartoons around now, but not anything like they used to be, and probably won't be, because there is too much time to fill.

Eagle Project was painting and renovating our sponsor church... the entire interior. Had to come up with the supplies and the man/boy power to get it all done on a Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur,Fri - and have the place aired out for service Sunday. - Though I always preferred my STAR project - which was to arrange a camp for a MHMR scout unit made up of 50 some odd mentally challenged adults - we pitched their tents - supervised horse rides - and I negotiated with the army to have one of them big double bladed helicopters to give them all rides. And oddly - I can't remember what the project was, if there was one for LIFE - but thems my Star and Eagle projects.

That was seriously the best caper flick I've seen in a very long time. How the hell did this slip by me?!
