Heath Bar gonna get a Supporting Oscar post death nod? I mean he pretty much was the James Dean of our time. Kind of died in a similar fashion, cars were all the fad in those days, drugs are all the fad these days.

I really want this movie to be good, shit every talkbacker may as well be called Dark Knight Fan #1. I don't know what TB'ers are going to go after this movie comes out? Because every time a movie came out someone didn't want to see, or there mom wouldn't give them $7.50 to see a movie ($10 if you live in NY or Cali) they would always chant I'll wait for Dark Knight. Well what will people be waiting for next?

I almost don't want to see TDK because I'm afraid it won't live up to the awesomeness it projects in the trailers. Plus I was burned bad by Spiderman 3 for movies wasting my favorite villains. But this one sounds great. I'll be in line at Star Cinema, Madison, WI for the midnight IMAX premiere...

Anyone who doesn't like Heat or calls it a bad film is an idiot. And LA Confidential was one of the best films of the 90's. So, if Dark Knight is even close to the caliber of those films it will not only be the comic book film of the decade but it might even be up there with the greatest pics of all time. I've got my IMAX tickets for midnight opening day. I'm stoked. Thank you God for Christopher Nolan.

Spoiler Warning: Bale is Bruce Wayne...
by theycallmemrglass
Jun 27th, 2008
01:29:39 PM
But he aint Batman. His voice as one reviewer puts it was always too much of a grunt in Batman Begins. I let that go though, because we were witnessing a raw Batman, a beginning. Now that we are beyond that, Bale is too wrong for Batman. He may be good as Bruce Wayne but the reviewer suggests that there is much more of Batman in this film. Having got that gripe off my chest, I fucking loved Batman Begins and I cant wait to see this one, with a fucking awesome promising interpretation of the Joker. Shit, what a summer this is turning out to be. Iron Man (good fun, not as great as everyone is making it out to be though), Indiana Jones (fucking loved it. Bitches wanna complain about story and realism of the action can go fuck themselves as they havent got a fucking clue what an Indy film is about), Wall-E (98% on Rottentomatoes, I'd be damned if I end up agreeing with the 2%), Hulk, Prince Caspian, Wanted, all rating above 70% on Rottentomatoes, which makes for a fucking great summer of cinema.

I have such high hopes. I'm going to leave expectations at the door of course. But everything I've heard and read says this could be the best comic film in years. For me, I think Spider-Man 2 and X2 are the best thus far. Iron Man is close. After seeing Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3, I hope there is not a third Batman reboot film.

yeah watched begins last night (played twice in a row on cable- with limited commercials and a TDK trailer every break!)and there was a scene where bale is speaking to alfred as tough but troubled bruce wayne- and i though THAT'S what the batman voice should have been- not the heavy handed, frothing stuff he ends up doing. i was hoping he was going to ditch that drama in his early stage, but no.

spoiler question - why is it he needs to change suits? what happens to the old one?

The movie: BIG TIME SPOILERS
by Charlie Murphy
Jun 27th, 2008
02:16:41 PM
Okay, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've read all the reviews, and seen all the footage and I have an idea of what we can expect when July 17 rolls around. SPOILERS LIKELY FOLLOW........ I swear to God, skip this if you don't want to know............ The movie begins with Gotham in not much better shape than before Batman showed up. A bunch of gangs have picked up where Falcone left off. Batman is still taking them down, but the Joker shows up and brings all the gangs together to kill Batman. Meanwhile, even though Gotham is a little wary of accepting Batman as their saviour, Harvey Dent has been gathering support. He wins the election and change looks to be coming. Bruce Wayne wonders if Gotham needs a Batman; if he can live happily ever after with Rachel. He doesn't know that Rachel is in love with, and plans to marry, Harvey Dent. Dent, Gordon and Batman are trying to take down all the gangs. At some point, the Joker kills Rachel Dawes which affects both Bruce and Harvey deeply. It sounds like the Joker kidnaps both Harvey and Rachel and gives Batman the option that he can save one of them. They are in different buildings. Batman chooses Rachel, and Gordon goes after Harvey, but the Joker has switched addresses, so when Batman thinks he's going after Rachel, he's really going for Harvey. Rachel blows up, and Harvey gets scarred, becoming Two-Face. Two-Face goes on a rampage killing all these mob guys, and evetually kidnaps Gordon's family (He blames Gordon for Rachel's death) and there's a fight between Batman and Two-Face that ends with Two-Face falling to his death.(It is unclear whether or not everyone assumes Harvey is dead, or if he 100% gone). Everyone is worried that the public learning of Harvey's crime spree would undo all the good he did, so Batman takes the blame for all the mob killings. He's left on the run at the end of the movie. Joker is captured, but alive. I read somewhere that the movie ends with Gordon explaining to his son that Batman is Gotham's protector, its Dark Knight... roll credits. END SPOILERS. Now, only some of this is confirmed information, but from the various reviewers all giving a rough outline of the movie, this is the most coherent one i can put together.

I think you're right. I haven't watched Batman 89 since BB came out... not that I don't enjoy it, I do... but it just doesn't hold up. I think Michael Keaton is good, and Nicholson does okay even though I feel the praise for him is a bit overdone. He pretty much plays himself in the movie. I think B89 has pretty good atmosphere but there's too many wrongs in there to be overlooked. (not that BB doesn't have it's own flaws-- i watched it again yesterday for the first time since 2006, and I had problems with it)

i've come to accept the nolan stuff -which some consider 'boring'- as what really happened, and the iconic comics, or extremely personal vision of BATMAN 89 as mythic, elaborated re-tellings of re-tellings of real batman events. Like how one simple battle in history can eventually be so distorted, elaborated or retold that the end result is almost cartoonlike or overly patriotic

i also now accept nolan's joker in makeup now because, well, it's realistic, but also because people who see the joker (and survive), or see him on tv, or spread the rumors and fearful gossip about him would start to tweak the reality...saying he has albino, or making up their own backstories as to how he got whitened, or how his mouth was cut......just like how the criminals speculate if batman can really fly, or if he's a robot, or a monster, or a ninja

I was agreeing with you for the most part.
Batman 89 is responsible for nolan's take
by zom-bot.com
Jun 27th, 2008
03:18:38 PM
by that i mean if warner hadn't taken the chance on a 'dark' moody batman movie in 89, we may have not ever been allowed to get BB ot TDK. now, chances are since the comics were already getting darker, the movies would eventually- and if not burton then maybe some other dark artist at some point...but, in our universe of reality, batman 89' tipped the scale for darker batman (and other super movies to come), so for that i respect it but it is way dated and as campy now as batman 66 was in 89.

B89 was, in its time, a deeply flawed but very enjoyable movie. It still has some appeal, though "Batman Returns" is more interesting if frequently incoherent. Nicholson plays himself on acid, which for most of the movie is lots of fun. And at least he was The Joker, not some Crow wannabe pretending to be The Joker. No permanent clown look = no Joker. I don't care how wide his grin looks.

They've never highlighted characters on screen like Joe Chill, Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, or even Lucius Fox before. Not until Batman Begins. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Leslie Tompkins, Harvey Bullock, or even a young Babs Gordon. Nolan is following the medium and staying true to the mythology. As long as he continues on that vein, I know I'm going to dig it. As for making it real, I think because of the medium, it translates well. If you're watching something real, it's easier to except subject-matter grounded in reality. Catwoman, Black Mask, Maxie Zeus, Riddler, Penguin, Ventriliquist, Bane, Mad Hatter, and Hugo Strange would all fit in this universe. We've already seen Zsasz, Scarecrow, Two-Face, and modified versions of Ra's and the Joker. To sum it all up: me likey.

I think Begins was visionary not because of the story elements, but because of the universe Nolan created in which those story elements were told. I personally have never seen a comic book character brought to life in such a rich, textured, and downright realistic world before. And I'm not a comics reader, so Nolan's universe was really the main appeal for me.

My review was a lot better when it had paragraph breaks in it. Beaks is a moron because I never said it was the best comic book ever. Honestly, I had more fun with The Incredible Hulk, mostly because it has a better score and I'm heavily influenced by music. I'd rather watch paint dry than watch Heat. I never said that I didn't like Batman Begins, just that I didn't cream my pants over it. I'm not into artsy fartsy shit; I like fast paced action movies, so hopefully that clarifies my point of view a little bit. Let me put it this way. Unless they pull an Alien:Resurrection, Two Face won't be in the next one. And yeah, the letter is Alfred's secret. I didn't shit myself over TDK, but it was really good. I might prefer Batman Returns, because let's face it, Heath Ledger isn't better than Michelle Pfeiffer. I AM NOT A TOOL! But I was really stoned when I saw the movie, and sometimes I enjoy a movie less when I smoke too many blunts. Know what I mean? Like sometimes you like the movie more, but sometimes you just wanna get the fuck out of there and eat a Big Mac. I experienced that due to it's long running time. And I have a life and don't spend all day on Talkback, so don't waste your time asking me a million questions, because I probably won't read them. PEACE!

pull your head out of your asses and take a look again. ok now put your head back in cause your face is ugly. batman 89 is well made movie version of batman, probly the best you were gonna get after the 1969 batman that was the biggest mental image up until then. good movie, good style, good performances, a good way to end the 80's. batman returns was a blast for me, a christmas tradition every year. it did take me a few years to realize it though, didn't like it at first. but the catwoman made it much easier to watch, then i realized how sick penguin was and how cool a circus gang could be. yes very over the top, but come on it had christopher walken, and some great performances, michael kearon rocked. glad to say the next two batman flicks never grew on me.

Batman Returns IS magic. As good as The Dark Knight is, nothing in it evokes goosebumps like the scene where Michelle Pfeiffer walks into her apartment and proceeds to go batshit crazy and transform into Catwoman. That scene is one of the most moving scenes in any movie I've ever seen. From the moment when she drones "honey, I'm home" to her reaction to the messages on the answering machine, shredding her stuffed animals in the food processor, shattering the fluorescent sign so it says "Hell Here." FUCK! That scene is AMAZING! And Michelle Pfeiffer, lookin all crazy and demented, is BEYOND fuckable. Let's face it, none of the Batman movies are an accurate translation of the comics, but the way Danny Elfman's score is weaved seamlessly into a tragic fairy tale about a misunderstood penguin freak and a sexually frustrated secretary is moving in the most darkly comic sort of way. And there are so many amazing moments in that movie. When Penguin bites off that dude's nose, when Miss Gotham gets attacked by bats, when Catwoman eats the parakeet, and of course when Bruce and Selena realize each other's secret identity's while they dance to that kick ass Siouxsie & the Banshee's song. I could watch that movie all day everyday. Sure, it's awesome when Heath Ledger does the "pencil trick." Everyone in the audience ate it up. And The Dark Knight is one of the best movies this year, but Batman Returns is one of the best motherfucking movies EVER! I'm gonna go watch it right now before I bust a nut thinking about it.

It's not really a nod at either films. I think the reviewer was confusing a certain line of dialogue with the "I wish I knew how to quit you" line from BBM. But that said, even the line itself isnt a wink at Jerry Maguire. The Joker says "I don't want to kill you. You complete me." to Batman in one scene. Not so much a pop culture reference as it is a statment that the two need the other to exist.

i don't want to say i agree with you, because i don't feel as strongly as you do, but i always found the Spidey flicks to be... not that great. Part 2 is my favorite, but I don't consider it the best comic book movie ever. not even top 3. There's some good stuff in it, but it's not legendary. and i agree that Tobey is miscast as peter parker. seeing topher grace's enthusiasm in part 3 really made me wish someone else had gotten cast as peter. (not necessarily topher grace, but someone with the same fun screen presence...) tobey barely cracked a smile in all three movies, and even though peter got picked on and stuff, he is a more or less content kid who really embraces his alter ego. i rarely got that feeling in the trilogy. as for Part 3, it was awful, I don't like talking about it.

The scene where Catwoman wrecks her apartment one of the most moving scenes in any film? I just finished watching returns for first time in years, it isn't THAT good. De Vito is awesome, Keaton, however, is 'The Happening' bad as batman. BB is better acting and dialogue wise, but BR feels more iconic due to Burton's direction. I think BB is more enjoyable overall though.

how AWESOME would it be to have Bale and Odonnel team up for Part 3, maybe a subtle bridge acknowledging that this is really a continuation of previous batmans, heck he can even pick up a nipples-suit and turn toward bale with a wink "whattya think? Bale just has a grim Patrick Bateman stare and he goes "fine, but chicks dig the nipples" and they ride off. Robin gets his own mini-style red colored jet-wheel thing to ride on, it's unconventional where he has to lie down and strap himself in, very flat based to avoid bullets or sharpnel and they BLAST off into the night to fight crime! Nolan i hope you're intently reading this.

they tried to make more out of a simple cops and robbers movie than it needed to be, to the point where it was masquerading as something operatic and melodramatic. all that cartoony family shit could have been left out, as well as the mini-stories of every extra and secondary character no one gives two shits about, and they also made it corny by somehow making it all one big last ditch gamble, the badguys who've been doing this for years all of a sudden have too much "heat" so they decide it's too scary and need to pull one more heist and then leave to their vacation dreamplaces? fuck that awful excuse for more drama. also shit that doesnt make sense, they make the robber crew be so meticulous, slick, professional tight-knit that they hire a loose cannon psycopath and dont bother to check his history. nice one!

But I will not post spoilers and or plot points here. Its not fair. Even if I tagged it with a "SPOILER WARNING", people simply can't resist but read it, and that's weak sauce. I only posted the Joker's line to Batman because I felt it was coming across like some hammy pop reference for people to look out for, when its really not even close. See the flick on July 18th. No, not really. I just thought that it was going to be Two Face in the 3rd movie after being set up in the 2nd. I think a lot of people thought that was how it was going to be. What I find funny about it is how so many people have been saying that it's good that DC quit killing off every villain like they did in the past. I dont think its a case of being original so much as what works best for the film. Most people who watch the film arent going to notice when Heath's Joker uses a line that Jack's joker did before him. It just works at that moment. Two Face death the similarities are just coincidence and again in this case it just makes sense.

i think hero movies have to resort to ridiculous height falls because people in movies always get shot and die instantly, or get shot like 50 times and can keep walking and say last words...so, falling is final and tragic?

too bad dent truly dies, i was hoping they were going to fake his death but he would really be M.I.A.
