to get to a point where you can do cheap-ass web movies with self-knowing kinda funny lo-key stars and know that people will watch them just because of the actually GOOD things youv'e done.

i'm guessing it got passed over as both a tv show or a movie. so now it pretends to live in the hip zone of a 'web experience'

All those people who race to post a blisteringly negative comment about every damn thing on this site are actually bile filled un-married middle aged men who are terrified that youth has left them and people are actually finding some meaningful enjoyment in something that actively excludes them because they're too fucking bitter and joyless. Phew that's a weight off!

he said it better than me. seems like a waste of time for all involved, as well as 'team whedon' (i have to wash my mouth out now...'team'...mlegh) why not use this money and time to, i dunno, make more movies and shows with wider scope. a web series like this- even at low budget- has to be a financial loss. that's what i mean when i say it must be nice to have the surplus of time and money to waste on something like this.

You think Joss is wasting time with this? you're wasting time posting your negative comments about it. How about you go plant a tree, feed the homeless, do something productive rather than bothering to post in a talkback you're reflexively inclined to rant about because of your inherent superiority to all things Whedon? How about, instead of being negative about something you claim not to like (and yet sure know a hell of a lot about), you go be positive on some other forum about something else? Why bother? you're wasting your time, and we don't really give a flying shit what you have to say because we know you're just a pathetic little troll anyhow. I fucking hate sports, but i'm not on sports forums ranting about them. i'm out looking at forums related to things I DO like instead. It's much healthier, less bile-churning, less pointless way to live your life. "Monkey-Troll Dance," nice phrase.
Buffyverse metts Ventureverse!

You know you'd watch that mash-up. Brock Sampson would totally bone Faith. Hank and Dean would get all sorts of inappropriate boners. And Buffy and Triana would go shopping while Giles and Dr. Orpheus formed an acoustic duo and played coffee houses. Dr. Venture would probably creep them all out and start hanging out with The Monarch because no one else can stand him. Spike would fight Phantom Limb. David Bowie would pop up. Angel would go all evil and start running the Guild of Calamitous Intent. Andrew would move in with White and Billy Quizboy. Brock Sampson would bone Willow, which would surprise her (not as gay as she thought). Buffy would start dating Phantom Limb and fight with Dr. Girlfriend. Orpheus would erase Dawn from existence because she was never supposed to exist in the first place. Xander's Guild application would be denied and he'd start palling around with 18 and 24. Brock would bone Buffy, then Molatov Cocktease would show up and try and kill Buffy and Faith. That would end season one with a cliffhanger as Dr. Venture finally gets a date with Buffy--to Las Vegas!
Sounds like a Venture Bros. episode

But webisodes? Not a TV show? Not a movie? It looks like more fun to me than Hancock (not to put that one down, just I trust the creatives involved with this more). I wish this was a new TV show. Sci-Fi, don't you have room for a new show yet? Can't USA put the money they saved by cancelling The 4400 to better use than that show about the US Marshal named Marshall and the other lady (show name escapes me)? All it appears to be missing are worthy production values, but if they could put money into Underdog, then this really should be a no-brainer.

of what Stephen King did with "The Plant". Fuck the publishing company, I'm selling it straight to the fans (this was before that itune thingy). It didn't work out then but eventually....I mean, I mentioned that itune thingy, right?

I think Whedon - out of his intense support for artists and his intense dislike of corporate suits telling him what to do (bit of a diva, yeah? God bless him.) - is experimenting like Uncle Stevie did. Will it be a success? Probably not. Matt and Trey were correct when they said the internet wasn't commerically accesible right now. But it will be one day. And you need guys pushing the envelope, so they can develop technology to keep up with imagination.

Or you know, fuck it, maybe it's just a bunch of cute songs. That may be better. I wonder if Doogie and Mal kiss?

It's not a movie or TV show cause he wrote it during the writer's strike. It's how he filled his time. I like all involved, I'll check it out. There is a lot of hate on this site, but I can't really complain, seeing that if this was a Michael Bay or Uwe Boll movie, I'd be the one spewing the hate. Some people just don't get Whedon. I think they're missing out, but that's just me.

I haven't really kept up with this sing-a-long thing. I heard a little hear and there but this trailer looks perfect for what it is -fun little 3 ten minutes webisodes. What's to hate? Some of you guys are so pathetic it makes we wonder if you're just playing characters in a WoW/DD like game called AICN that I don't know about "try and be the most obnoxious fanboy jerkwad and earn xp". The truth is - NOBODY cares if you like it or not. Not one person. For those of us who are looking forward to it I'd say the trailer is perfect.

Haven't read the whole talkback, but to those wondering WHY Joss spent time on this... from what I understood when I heard about this a few months ago was that it was something Joss did for fun during the writers strike, because there really wasn't anything else to do.

by oisin5199

Joss did come up with this during the writer's strike, but not just because he had nothing else to do. His idea was to show what could be done away from the WGA and the Hollywood machine. He's said he hopes to sell this on DVD or something (make it pay somehow), just to demonstrate a production and sales model outside of the typical Hollywood system. I'm all for it, and I'm certainly all for the actors! Nathan Fillion must be in everything!

I agree with the first part of what you say, but can't make head or tail of the second. I think that BtVS had a great high concept which was very much about how highschool (it had already turned tp crap by the time they got to college IMO) was the *real* horror, you know? I think that the quality was also inversely proportional to the amount of 'mythology' they dredged up. Don't get me wrong, I think that mythologies have their place, just that that the Buffy/Angel one was often gratuitous, a creative crutch and not particularly well-thought out to boot (it didn't seem robust enough to support the epic aspirations).
