I actually remember the old Valiant days. A few of my buddies managed a couple of shops in the early nineties-- Sears: Sports, Cards and Comics, and All American Comics. (Bit of Trivia: Out of that little click was spawned the Lunatic Wrestling Federation, and out of THAT came WWE Superstar, CM Punk--- CM for Chick Magnet... Haven't seen him in years, but not a bad chap as I recall.)Anywho, I remember that was thing. Image had the artists. Valiant had the writers, and former Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics, Jim Shooter. I didn't catch too much of it myself. (I was always confused as to what to read in the "variant-cover-for- the-latest-super-villain-turne d- anti-hero" days.) But my pals always doted on Valiant. They glowed at the adventures of Archer and Armstrong, Turok, and, of course, Doctor Mirage. Eventually, I did get a chance to look in on some the work they did, and I don't remember being displeased. I'll certainly have to check it out. Am I... Am I required to say First? I don't know the etiquette.

Fucking New Frontiers....The new WB cartoon. Holy shit, Hal Jordan is the frookin MAN in that one. It's awesome from top to bottom: Angel plays Hal Jordan and Agent Dale Cooper plays Superman, and XENA! plays Wonder Woman. Add to this the same feeling of this should be a real live action flick, and the best damned depiction of Martian Manhunter in the world, that gets my money.
I will only buy this if it has the He-Man "Filmation" intro.

Had some awesome kills and was a great 1st person shooter for the n64. Too bad I never beat it but it was one of the best 1st person shooters I played. Sadly, the others weren't up to par but the new Turok game looks like it could be dope.

Too bad the other ones were mediocre. I had Turok 2 for console and PC and it was incredible...so much so that I bought Turok 1...and ended up playing that one only once. Then after that they all sucked. Turok 2 is almost like Resident Evil 2, a part 2 that completely stands out (even though other RE's were great too).

Blah, blah, DELL comics guy, myself, blah, blah.

This "Harry" guy totally could have written this review based on nothing but the trailer and the spoilers that have been on-line for months.

(Yes, the ol' hyuk-a-hyuk subversion citing Harry as a plant is still fatballs funny. It's an old joke, but it checks out. Let it land on Endor fer chrissakes.)

This . . . I command!

(I address you parenthetically, here, to tell you that my command has nothing to do with the previous parenthetical. "Let" is an actual command of sorts, and Serpentor shies away from actual commands. I am not Serpentor, though, so it really shouldn't matter. Should it?)

I've long thought that the Turok material could be great fun on the BIG SCREEN, in the right hands, with the right effects technology and a large enough budget. For the part of Turok,...there should be a search for a true Indian-American. I mean, this is sorta like looking for the right actor to play Superman, you know? ...And how cool would it be if they found someone that was as dedicated as Sly Stallone, back in the day of those Rambo sequels? Rambo, in his physical prime,...in an environment of dinosaurs as cool as any in "JURASSIC PARK" and Jackson's "KING KONG" with be...oh, man, that would be so awesome, in the right hands. I'm over 40 and this still sounds like it could be one of the coolest things in the right hands, as a huge summer blockbuster. The video games have been fun. But a movie?! Now...THAT...I would be extremely excited about. Especially if all the right elements came together to make it as great as it could be. And sprinkle in some Indiana Jones, while you're at it.

I don't know Harry. I get sucked into these animated snore fests every time. Avengers, Superman, Iron Man, Dungeons and Dragons etc. They always end up being terrible. I'm not even looking forward to Justice League: The New Frontier. I hate to be bitter, how many dissapointments can one take in a row? I'll try Turok, which wasn't even on my radar screen, but considering I got bored watching the 60 second youtube trailer I'm not holding out much hope. It's hard to believe out of the Valiant properties it was Turok and not Magnus Robot Fighter that became a hot property.
On The Subject Of New Animated DTV...

I've heard no mention of the 'cool news' regarding the first (that I'm aware of) video adaptation of a Dragonlance novel - 'Dragons of Autumn Twilight' which was released last Tuesday(? I think).

If you want my review...

'D.O.A.T.' suffers in a lot of ways and is in no way relatively good. A huge problem is pacing. Another is the poor combined use of 3D and 2D animation (2D heroes fighting much more impressive looking 3D bad guys?! - WTF?!) It also left out tons of stuff (although not entire characters a la LOTR) and every other conversation was about Tanis' half-bred heritage or someone's lack of faith in some god. Everything from the novel was glossed over or fast-forwarded through. The end battle doesn't even adhere to the rules of common sense because, I swear to god, at the point when there's an entire army of draconians closing in, due to exposition, this army disappears until the audience is told enough info to fill in the gaps the film neglects to show us through action, then 'unpauses' the army's assault to continue the battle.

Not even Kiefer Sutherland voicing Raistlin (the foundation of my desire to watch it) was able to save this adaption from ultimately disappointing in almost every possible way.

It's redeeming value is, like with Turok, perhaps this is some kind of testing ground for possibly a life-action production of some sort.

Or, if this series continues (so far only the 1st of the Dragon's Trilogy has been released, I have no idea if the other 2 are in the works or not), hopefully someone will realize that 'THE LEGEND OF (Motherf-ing) HUMA' is the best f-ing story in the entire Dragonlance universe and that needs to be on deck for whatever adaptation, DTV or cinematic, the TSR folks are planning next.

Well, i actually played all Turok games on N64 and GC, and I'm wondering, if i might get me a Copy of the Actual PC-Title. Well, as it goes for this animated Turok, it seems, that it's quite good and Turok-typically bloody. BTW: The German Located PC-Versions of 1&2 were ugly censored(Aiden replaced with a Robot in the Multiplayer-Game), rendering them less interesting than the unlocalized N64-Versions(if I blast a Grenade on a Raptor, I expect dismemberment) As far as it goes for me, I'm pro this Film.

(and not anime) Seriously dickweeds, you don't qualify as nerds at all. At least not interesting nerds. Real genre-fans (nerds) are interested in anything that features carnage filled battles between ____ and dinosaurs. The fact that Turok is a famous property makes it more interesting. And if the animation is as good as Batman: The Animated Series or the Superman series or the Justice League series, it's going to be fucking great. You people are really awful I mean it. You pretend to be interested in fantasy and action and scifi stuff but you shun it for bullshit reasons. One of the only genuine fantasy movies ever made is Fire and Ice, but it's animated (rotoscoped) so you'd probably never see it and mock it. Continue living in your boring insular world motherfuckers.

I'm sure there is a whole subset of people here who appreciate the hell out of Bakshi's work. I consider the motion tracking of stuff like Beowulf, and the computerized stuff from A Scanner Darkly the natural successor to rotoscoping, which I wish had produced more coherent films aside from Fire and Ice. "making sense" was never Bakshi's strong point.

Moms will freakout because their little precious will see arms getting chopped off, arrows being fired into the flesh and penetrating deep, skulls being crushed open with tomahawks and such. Lots of blood and gratuitous violence. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie and it is faithful to the comic books, but the problem is the film has a limited audience. Either original fans of the comic who are between 45-55 or the resurgence of it back in the eighties, 30-40 will appreciate this. Mainstream audiences won't have a clue who Turok is. But, then if they made it PC and Turok made friends with the Neaderthals and dinosaurs, we'd have fucking "Doctor Dolittle."

Has a very rushed and generic plotline. When you're watching it you know what the general story is about because it's so typical of fantasy, but it sprints through everything without putting any meat on it. Evil glacier empire, young untested hero who has to challenge emperor/sorcerer/villain, hot evil sorceress chick, the aged badass death-dealer dude, etc. We know where it's going but it doesn't do the job of storytelling very well. But still, it's one of the best fantasy movies we have, mainly because the competition is so weak. (My favorites are Excalibur and Conan the Barbarian.) I liked Beowulf for a lot of the same reasons I like Fire and Ice. And I truly dislike that people dismiss Beowulf and Fire and Ice and this Turok movie because they're presented as animation. This is cool stuff we're getting, and you've got to embrace what you can get.

I finally caught Conan the Barbarian on DVD the other day. It was weak, started cool but completely fell apart at the end. Anyone that disagrees is lying to themselves. As for Trouts earlier rant, don't forget to take your Ridilin before you post next time. Harry shouldn't let 5th graders post, ecspecially if they are going to call people MFers. We all love to be entertained, but cheap animation is insulting. They should have literally cut a corner off of the screen on the Marvel Animated DVDs. I hate when people rip an audience for turning their back on garbage. It's like the new Alien vs Predator bombing. Audiences love Aliens and Predators, but don't insult us. Make a good one and we'll come but don't think you can pass off anything. While I'm in full out rant mode, one more point. Can we stop with the "my franchise is better than your franchise nonsense? Even if I were to concede Star Wars is better than Star Trek (I'm not) Does that mean I can't watch Star Trek? I don't get what you idiots mean with that. OK, rant over.
