Saying Goodbye To Vic Mizzy (1916-2009)

ScoreKeeper here to pay my respects to the "all together ooky" Vic Mizzy who passed away last week at the age of 93.

Mizzy was a veteran composer and songwriter whose credits include the films THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN (1966), THE RELUCTANT ASTRONAUT (1967), HOW TO FRAME A FIGG (1971), and television series such as THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1964-1966) and GREEN ACRES (1965-1970) which flaunted two of the most memorable sitcom themes in the history of television.

Mizzy's infectious theme from THE ADDAMS FAMILY, punctuated by two finger snaps, would cement his legacy in the annals of television music forever. A humble man with a glowing sense of humor, Mizzy often joked, "Two finger snaps and you live in Bel-Air," a reference to the affluent section of Los Angeles which he called home.

Here is Mizzy in his own words explaining how he conjured up the iconic theme and used it to direct the opening title sequence himself.

The world can not afford the loss of such a talented tunesmith such as Vic Mizzy. He will be missed and his legacy will endure with the music he left behind. On behalf of Ain't It Cool News I'd like to express our condolences to the Mizzy family.

ScoreKeeper!
