Hey folks, Harry here… Since the last DVD column – I’ve been going through a ton. There was the trip to L.A. – and then there was a late Honeymoon nightmare – and then this odd lack of concentration I’ve had ever since my surgery. Which I think comes from a radical change in calorie intake and the types of foods I’ve gone to. That said, I want to assure all of you that I’m fine – and deeply upset that I haven’t been able to get these last three weeks up. The DVD columns regularly take me hours and hours to do – and my concentration has been iffy. But I seem to be getting better at focusing…

What follows are the DVDs that I would have written up over the past 3 weeks… I’ll attempt to add some descriptions over the course of this weekend, but at least now you will see what my picks would have been. And beginning with this next Tuesday’s article – we’ll be back to normal…. Totally worth having in Blu Ray for the last 35 minutes - where Hell opens up and vomits out some of the most outrageously awesome death I've ever seen in an ass-kicking film before.

One of the greatest fantasy films of all time. Not realistic, but storybook. Let Criterion be your gateway drug to Korda - and you'll be led down a fantastic realm of discovery. Conrad Veidt rules... Sabu rules... but fucking Rex Ingram is the greatest mutherfucker to ever rule!

DARFUR NOW

It is embarrassing and a crime just how impotent George Bush has been in dealing with Darfur. But it's ok - his immortal soul will do the penance.

TENEBRE

You know what - I kinda dug this. Way to go Argento!

PHENOMENA

Oh My God - did you first fall in love with Jennifer in LABYRINTH or this? If this, then you really had to be older than me - and if you were older than me when you fell in love with her... you're a very bad person. Argento knocked this one out of the park. GREAT film.

ADVANTAGE: SUPER HEROES Vol 1

Flash Gordon, Mandrake The Magician and The Phantom. I loved these shows - all 11 hours!

42nd Street Pete’s 2-DVD JOHN HOLMES Collection

You love Boogie Nights? John was the real, much sadder tale. One film - DEAR PAM and a whole bunch of "loops" - if you're a member of the cult of Holmes - you must own.

CLOVERFIELD – Blu Ray

The sound and image are totally worth it, but the FX extras in HD are sublime. I love love this movie and disc.

DIRTY HARRY ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S EDITION

Perhaps my favorite collection to hit Blu Ray yet. I sat down and watched all the Dirty Harry movies in a row - and really want one more. Really want one more. Please Clint!

THERE WILL BE BLOOD – Blu Ray

One of the greatest performances of all time. Beautifully captured. Stunning sound and score design. Brilliant direction. And the best film of 2007.

PATTON

George C Scott is one magnificent bastard in this movie. Thank you Milius!

MANNIX – the first season

Mannix kicked ass - and Bill Bixby directed some of these. This was a great show!

SEMI PRO

The uncensored version - has inexplicable nudity by Will's "wife" throughout the film. It kinda rocks.

A truly great M Night film. Wish he had a new one out in theaters now. Oh well.

George Pal produced - and not accurate at all. But I love it all the same. Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh are great together - and you can blame this film for the existence of Laurie Strode.

THE PROFESSIONALS

After watching it, it's my favorite western of all time. But then, I feel the same after watching THE WILD BUNCH, OUTLAW JOSEY WALES, The Leone Four, THE SEARCHERS, HIGH NOON, THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE, etc. But this one just absolutely kicks all of their asses as I watch it.
